October 20, 2017 – Kamloops, BC

STARTUP KAMLOOPS has won Startup Canada’s Community of the Year Award!

Awarded in Ottawa yesterday, Startup Kamloops was selected over national finalists Startup Sault Ste. Marie and Startup Edmonton, as the community having an extraordinary impact on the environment for entrepreneurship.

Lincoln Smith, Executive Director of Kamloops Innovation accepted the award on behalf of Startup Kamloops. Smith was in Ottawa attending “Startup Canada Day on the Hill” activities which brought Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior bureaucrats together with Canada’s entrepreneurship community to ensure entrepreneurs are helping to create the conditions necessary for success, growth and impact.

“This award elevates Kamloops as a hub for entrepreneurship both regionally and nationally,” says Dr. Smith, “we are thrilled to accept this award on behalf of our whole community. This award is for our entrepreneurs, community leaders, and entrepreneur-support organizations who continue to make Kamloops a destination for entrepreneurship and innovation.”

The Startup Canada Awards can be likened to the Oscars for the Canadian entrepreneurship community – celebrating and recognizing the individuals, communities and institutions that have demonstrated innovation, excellence, outstanding achievement and impact in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.

“Congratulations to Startup Kamloops and the entrepreneur ecosystem on winning Community of the Year,” says Victoria Lennox, Co-Founder and CEO of Startup Canada, “with a population under 100,000, Kamloops punches above its weight and is advancing the culture and environment for entrepreneurship in Canada.”

2017 has been a successful year for Kamloops’ entrepreneurial community. David Trawin, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Kamloops was a national finalist for the Startup Canada Policy Prize Award. Other Kamloops 2017 winners include:
