Highlights of 2016

The holiday season is here and things are starting to come to a close. We’re reflecting on a big year both for the BC tech industry and our local tech community! Check out some of the best moments in our startup community.

iTel Networks
What a year for iTel! Not only did they outgrow their space at Kamloops Innovation and move into their own building, but they also were recognized for their achievements at the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce Awards and nationally for high growth entrepreneurship at the Startup Canada Awards!

TechBrew
Our biggest year yet! TechBrew brought together almost 300 people under one roof for Kamloops’ tech event of the year. Featuring live music from Echo Beach, a technology showcase of our local startups, food trucks, and local craft beer – TechBrew was the place to be.

Lightship merges with Truvian Labs
This year, Lightship merged with Truvian labs growing to 22 employees! Together, they provide complete visibility and control over both historical and real-time data and are leading the way in the future of work-site and emergency management.

Streamline acquires Spur Innovations
Not only did Streamline take office at Kamloops Innovation, they also acquired a dynamic technology company, Spur Innovations. With awesome additions to their team, Streamline now has all the necessary pieces in place to be a market leader in the fast paced and quickly evolving transportation technology market.

New Residents
We’re excited that our offices are almost all full! This year we had new companies take office at Kamloops Innovation: Castlemain, NextIT, Ideal Networks, Databox, Streamline, rOpenSci, and Adroit Technologies!

Startup Kamloops
Entrepreneur support organizations joined forces this year to launch Startup Kamloops! If you’re starting a business, moving your business to Kamloops, or growing your business, we can help! Whether you’re looking for networking opportunities, funding resources, or a community to engage with – Startup Kamloops has you covered.

TRU Generator
Innovation and entrepreneurship on campus at Thompson Rivers University is thriving. The Generator is a business incubator on campus supporting students, faculty, and staff in starting new businesses. With support from Kamloops Innovation, three new student companies started at TRU Generator this year and are currently validating their business ideas. Meet Amplytica, Relock, and Spelld!
